UNDERSTANDING THE POWER OF SIN 5

1John 1:8 -9 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

 Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

 Matthew 12:31Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

 Proverbs 28:13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

  Your sin is not expected to stop you from pursuing God’s agenda for your life and destiny

  This is the Part 5 of this teaching series on “UNDERSTANDING THE POWER OF SIN”; in the course of this message we have been able to discover the Powerlessness of sin for those who are in Christ. We have been made to understand the victory we have obtained in Christ over sin. We have been made to understand that sin is not a factor for a child of God; neither should you for the fear of no wanting to sin abandon your divine assignment and pursuit for God on earth. In the studies yesterday we realized that even a just man who does good can also sin. To assume that because you are now a child of God you are sinless is to live in great delusion and deception. You need to know what to do when you must have fallen into sin so that you sustain your victory over sin which Christ has wrought for you. Your sin is not expected to stop you from pursuing God’s agenda for your life and destiny because there is a provision of God for you. Access that provision and move ahead to achieve God’s purpose for your life. I still reiterated that sin is never a factor in the life of a believer. Never excused sin in your life but while you do your best trusting the Holy Spirit to help you overcome that sin scenario, never allow the presence of such sin slow you down or cause you to loose pursuit.

From our Bible Text for today in Proverbs 28:13, it will be noted that sins are not to be covered. The word COVERED used in that scriptures taken from its root Hebrew Word kacah, which means to plump, i.e. fill up hollows; by implication, to cover (for clothing or secrecy):--clad self, close, clothe, conceal, cover (self), (flee to) hide, overwhelm. It is expected that when you sin, do not cover it up. It implies that you should acknowledge your sin. That is why the Psalmist in Psalms 32:5 says I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin.

When you realize that you have sinned, the first thing to do is to acknowledge your sin. Accept the fact that you were wrong. Don’t shift blames and don’t form excuses. That was the problems of Adam and King Saul respectively. When you form excuses and shift blames, you are attracting to yourself the wages that goes with sin. There is a reproach that comes with sin and when you form excuses and or try to plump up your sin, you will enforce the wages unceremoniously. When the sin is covered up, it frustrates you. It slows you down. It makes you unable to advance. You won’t be able to prosper and to make progress. You are dimensionally hindered from all sides. This is the danger of unresolved sin situation in your life

The acknowledging your sin, opens the channel of mercies for yourself but when you argue and shift blames, you shut the ways of mercies. Prov. 28:13

Secondly, it is not enough to acknowledge your sin, it is important to confess them unto the Lord. What does the word confess in the text connote? Taken from its Hebrew words yadah, which means to hold out the hand; physically, especially to revere or worship (with extended hands); intensively, to bemoan (by wringing the hands) in praise, giving thank or be thankful. Confession has to do with worship. Reaching out in reverence to the Lord for help against your sins. Coming to the Lord in worship to plead your cause. Confession is not about telling God what you did wrong because He knows already but it about worshipping Him with a broken heart irrespective of the sin. This explains what happened in Luke 7:37 -47. A woman who was described as a sinner, came to Christ and worshipped Him and she obtained forgiveness. By worship her sins which were many were forgiven. When you sinned, after acknowledging it, get into worship with the Lord, that is confession.

Thirdly, obtain and or receive forgiveness for your sin. It is already issued to you; it has been given to you, but you must reach out to receive it for yourself. How? (TO BE CONTINUED PART 6 WHICH ENDS THIS SERIES)

 PROPHETIC PRAYERS:Father, thank you for your word to me this morning. I acknowledge my sins before you and from my heart I am very sorry about them. Have mercy upon me in the Name of Jesus Christ.

 ALTAR CALL:If you have not yet received Jesus Christ in your life, this is an opportunity for you to do so. Please say this prayer:
Father, I acknowledge my sins and I ask for forgiveness and mercy. I declare that Jesus Christ is Lord and I receive Him into my life today. Thank you Father in the Name of Jesus Christ.
