UNDERSTANDING THE POWER OF SIN 6

1John 1:8 -9 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

 Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

 Matthew 12:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

 In Christ you are no longer waiting to be forgiven, you now have forgiveness. You are no longer waiting for it, you are now in possession of it.In Christ you are no longer waiting to be forgiven, you now have forgiveness. You are no longer waiting for it, you are now in possession of it.

 This is the Part 6 of this teaching series on “UNDERSTANDING THE POWER OF SIN”; Yesterday we looked at what should a Child of God do when he realizes that he has fallen into sin? It was agreed from scriptural point of view that the believer must acknowledge his sins and confess them. We also discovered that as a believer in Christ, you must obtain and or receive forgiveness for your sin. It is already issued to you; it has been given to you, but you must reach out to receive it for yourself.

From our Bible Text for today in Matthew 12:31; our Lord Jesus Christ said “.all manner of sins and blasphemy shall be forgiven. This was before He went to the cross. Here it was just a promise and He had not gone to the cross to die. After He had gone to the cross, the bible in Ephesians 1:7, declares that In Christ we have forgiveness. In Matthew 12:31, it was a promise but in Ephesians 1:7, it is a reality; it is a certainty. We are no longer waiting to be forgiven, we now have forgiveness. We are no longer anticipating to be forgiven but, we are now in possession of it. You are not just to ask for it, you already have it. All you need to do is to appropriate it for yourself. You have to lay hold of it for yourself. Take it for yourself. This is achieved by you walking and living in the consciousness of God’s forgiveness. It is one thing to know that you have something and it is completely a different thing for you to actually act in that knowledge. The aim of the devil is for you to move around carrying the weight of your sin but when you appropriate forgiveness for yourself, though you feel bad about your sin, yet you live as though it never happened and now you live above the mess.

In addition, when you appropriate forgiveness for yourself, you must learn to challenge the forces of hell demanding for vengeance against you regarding the sin. You must address every satanic force trying to take advantage of your sin against you. For every sin, there are consequences according to the natural course of justice. The bible rightly puts it that “there are wages for sin”. The forces of hell will want to activate those wages and consequences against you but you must need to address that. If not, though you are forgiven, you might still suffer the consequences and the punishment associated with that sin. Before the death of Christ on the cross. People suffer for the consequences of their sins but when Christ came and died, the status quo was changed. Remember the bible says in Isaiah 53: 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. The expression “…the chastisement of our peace was upon him.” connotes that the punishment we ought to have suffered because of the sins we committed was laid upon Jesus. He bore for us the consequences for our sins and as such, we ought not to suffer any further consequences for any sin. So in divine course of justice, you are not permitted to suffer any consequences or punishment for the sins that Christ has died for so long as you have acknowledged it and confessed it. If you permit to suffer any form of consequences, it is suffering twice for a sin and it is not permitted by scriptures because affliction shall not come the second time.

In this light, you will have to take care of the forces of darkness who may want to demand for retributions for your sins. After you had appropriated forgiveness for yourself, you must turn around to resist every forces set against you. Demobilize them by passing decrees over their activities and destroying their schemes and devices against you. Every sin carries with it a reproach, after receiving forgiveness, you must deliberately through authoritative proclamations and declarations stop every demonic aggression against you. You must stop every reproach because in Christ, you are set above reproaches and are blameless. You must stand up against every avenger demanding for punishment and revenge against you.

 PROPHETIC PRAYERS:Father, thank you for this teaching this morning. I appropriate for myself the forgiveness I have acquired in Christ. Father, thank you for the forgiveness I have in Christ. In the name of Jesus Christ I declare that all the forces of hell demanding for retributions of my sin be arrested and be cast into the dry land. I destroy whatever scheme or device they may want to deploy against me in the Name of Jesus Christ.

 ALTAR CALL: If you have not yet received Jesus Christ in your life, this is an opportunity for you to do so. Please say this prayer:
Father, I acknowledge my sins and I ask for forgiveness and mercy. I declare that Jesus Christ is Lord and I receive Him into my life today. Thank you Father in the Name of Jesus Christ.
