1John 1:8 -9 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Romans 8:38 – 39 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

This is the Part 4 of this teaching series on “UNDERSTANDING THE POWER OF SIN”; yesterday we were enjoined to deal with the tendency of fear of sinning that has limited many brethren from attaining to the fullness of the potentials of God in them. We came to the realization that we should learn to ride upon the finished works of Christ to deal with any sinful passions in our lives knowing fully well that sin has lost its pull and push over us. Knowing that sin has lost its power and strength implies that you can break away from any form of sinful habit or lifestyle. To continue in a sinful habit or lifestyle is a proof of ignorance of all that Christ has done for you. No sin should keep you down or stick itself on you.
Often times we have seen brethren who are passionate for the advancement of the kingdom of God and probably in the process make mistakes or sin, they become demobilized and end up frustrated because of the great weights of whatever sin they might have committed. We have seen brethren become completely lost out because of the sin they committed in the course of pursuing the plan and purposes of God for them. We have also seen the church help to destroyed brethren who were overtaken by sin, even when in their faithfulness to the church but became vulnerable to their weaknesses. Many of them are either excommunicated or exposed to harsh discipline that neither corrects them nor restores them. Many become very frustrated and totally discouraged about this matter of God and Christianity. The reason for all these is because either the believer or the leaders of the church do not understand the provisions of God regarding sin in this dispensation.
Can a believer be overtaken by a sin? Yes. The bible in Galatians 6:1 says Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. The word “FAULT” used in this scripture taken from its Greek original word “paraptomah”, means a side-slip (lapse or deviation), i.e. (unintentional) error or (wilful) transgression:-- a fall, fault, offence, sin, trespass. This implies that a believer in Christ can still be overtaken by a sin; but our job is to help him become restored, not to help the devil to get him deeply wounded and hurt and unable to access the provisions of God for him in Christ.
From our Bible Text for today in Ecclesiastes 7:20 , it will be noted that even a just man who does good can also sin. To assume that because you are now a child of God you are sinless is to live in great delusion and deception. You need to know what to do when you must have fallen into sin so that you can still go on to sustain the victory over sin which Christ has wrought for you. Your sin is not expected to stop you from pursuing God’s agenda for your life and destiny because there is a provision of God for you. Access that provision and move ahead to achieve God’s purpose for your life. I still reiterate that sin is never a factor in the life of a believer. Never excused sin in your life but while you do your best trusting the Holy Spirit to help you overcome that sin scenario, never allow the presence of such sin slow you down or cause you to loose pursuit. It is important for you to now that the plan and target of the devil is to leverage on your weaknesses and sins to stop you from pursuing God’s purpose for your life. Don’t give him that opportunity.
Learn to anchor strongly on the love of God for you and never be discouraged or be held down by your sins. No amount of sin can take you out of the love of God. From scriptures, I have come to understand that your sin could make you fall short of the glory of God but it can never take you out of the love of God, if you know what to do. There is nothing wrong being remorseful when you sin but it is very wrong to live perpetually remorseful of that sin to the point that you are unable to appropriate for yourself God’s remedy for your sin and or abandon your assignment or purpose in God. You are expected to live victoriously over sin.
The Victory Christ has given us over sin doesn’t connote sinlessness but it implies walking ahead in purpose while trusting God for that ultimate redemption of Christ for the saints. God told Abraham, walk before me and be ye perfect; (Genesis 17:1); this was after he had went down to Egypt, told a lie and later came up out of Egypt. That Abraham went down into Egypt ( a type of sin); didn’t cause God to abandon him; God plagued the house of Pharaoh because of him even when Abraham had sinned; but as soon as Abraham went up out of Egypt (a type of repentance and salvation); God continued with. (TO BE CONTINUED IN PART 5).
PROPHETIC PRAYERS: Father, thank you for bringing this teaching to me this morning. I refuse to be held down by my sin. I step up victoriously against that sin and I break loose unto God. Father, help me by your Spirit to keep my pursuit of you against all odds. I refuse to give up because of the weights of my sins but I access forgiveness in the Name of Jesus Christ.
ALTAR CALL: If you have not yet received Jesus Christ in your life, this is an opportunity for you to do so. Please say this prayer:
Father, I acknowledge my sins and I ask for forgiveness and mercy. I declare that Jesus Christ is Lord and I receive Him into my life today. Thank you Father in the Name of Jesus Christ.
