Until you understand the victory of believers over sin, you are still under the dominion of sin and the redemption you have received of Christ is of non-effect
This is Part 2 of this teaching series. We came to realize that our understanding of the power of sin will help us to break loose from its deceitfulness and to live free towards God and be fulfilled in life and destiny. The aim of this teaching is not to create sin consciousness in you but to reveal to you the destruction that sin has suffered so that you can know how to break loose from its dominion. It will surprise you to know that even those of us as ministers who are holiness preachers often live under the terror of sin. Their preaching about sin is because of their fear of it; not about their victory over sin. Until you understand the victory of believers over sin, you are still under the dominion of sin and the redemption you have received of Christ is of non-effect.
From our Bible Text for today in Romans 6:6; it is observed that there is “a body of sin”; and this body of sin has been destroyed. The word “BODY” used in the scriptures taken from its Greek word “SOMA” speaks of a “SLAVE SYSTEM”. This implies that sin has a capacity to enslave its victim; this explains why the bible refers to man as a servant of sin or a slave to sin. The slaving capacity of sin was possible before the coming of Christ but after the death and resurrection of Christ that slaving strength of sin is destroyed. That entity of sin that keeps its victim under bondage is destroyed, The universal power of sin to enslave has been destroyed. That spiritual audacity of sin to hold people under bondage and to terrorize its victims with consequences has been destroyed. The embodiment of sin has been destroyed. Man from now has the ability to resist and to refuse the enticement and deceitfulness of sin.
Since after the death and resurrection of Christ, this critical tendencies of sin has been destroyed. Spiritually and naturally, sin is no longer a factor. The dominion and the dynamics of sin has been dismembered. No believer is expected to remain under any form of harassments of sin. Whether it is the sin he committed or those committed by his fathers. The limitation upon people’s lives brought about by sin and the reign of sin has been destroyed. This is the knowledge that grants us victory over the power of sin.
It is important to know that “MR SIN” was not destroyed; but his slaving systems has been destroyed. What makes sin able to hold down its victims has been destroyed. Though sin seem to exist, believers in Christ have the ability to refute it at all cost. Secondly, that provoking tendency of sin wherein God gets angry with the sinner and pours forth His wrath has been removed. That dimension of the spirituality of sin that makes it very irritating to God has been pacified by the sacrifice of Christ and God can hold back His wrath and pour out more grace and mercies for the sinner to repent. Now God can exercise far much patience with the sinner. This aspect of life regarding sin works for those who will believe in Christ and through Him come to God.
Not only was the slaving strength of sin destroyed; but also that provocative tendencies towards God was destroyed as well. That generational accusations of sin also has been destroyed. It is therefore very important to know that from henceforth in Christ, no sin is permitted to extent its slaving strength across any life or family. If you understand this, you are not permitted to suffer the consequences of the sins of your fathers or those of the generations past. This is the advantage we have in Christ as believers. In Christ, you no longer serve the anger of sin, neither is God so angry with you. One of the deceitfulness of the devil through sin is to make you feel the guilt of your sin as though the weight of sin is heavier than the mercies of God. This is the feeling that keeps you under the dominion and slavery of sin.
Does this mean we should go ahead sinning? No. what then do we do? (TO BE CONTINUED IN PART 3 )
