IS DENOMINATIONALISM AN UNSUSPECTED “DEVIL”?
I am increasingly convinced that denominationalism (the blind, uncritical, and fanatical acceptance of a denomination’s dogmas) is one of the foremost weapons the devil uses to undermine and destroy the unity of the body of Christ on earth. I am shocked by the passionate antagonism, destructive lies, vicious blackmail, implacable hostility, and heartless defamation that some Christians exhibit toward their fellow believers simply because the latter do not belong to or have moved away from their particular church denominations. It is astounding how far people are willing to go, using blackmail, sabotage, character assassination, or outright misrepresentation against fellow Christians merely because they belong to a different denomination or have left their own. Unfortunately, these fabrications and attacks, often justified in the name of “God” or “our church,” frequently come from gospel ministers targeting other ministers.
This raises a critical concern: How "Christian" are these attitudes? How do they reflect Christ-likeness? How do they serve Christ’s cause on earth? How do they advance His kingdom?
When we limit our perception of God's kingdom or the body of Christ to a denominational framework, it often indicates that we have fallen victim to denominational enslavement, been blinded by a sense of denominational self-righteousness, become trapped in fanatical denominational indoctrination, or that our understanding of the body of Christ has become seriously distorted, necessitating a redefinition.
Let us embrace a broader vision of the kingdom of God instead of confining ourselves to the limitations of our “little” denominations. Remember this: the Kingdom of God is bigger than your denomination. That is a fact! Whether you acknowledge it or not does not change the reality. The Kingdom of God is older, greater, larger than, and will outlive any denomination.
