Long before Pentecostal Christianity found structure, stability, and national recognition in Cameroon, God had already prepared men—quiet, steadfast builders—who would carry the weight of foundations. Bishop Ekpai Mayeke James is one of such men.
A pioneering Pentecostal father and one of the foundational fathers of the Church of God of Prophecy (COGOP) in Cameroon, Bishop Ekpai Mayeke James has remained a pillar in the body of Christ for decades. Based in the historic city of Limbe, his name is inseparably tied to the early planting, growth, and consolidation of COGOP following its formal establishment in Cameroon in 1985.
In those defining early years, when the work was still fragile and demanding, Bishop Mayeke James emerged as a vessel through whom God gave the church roots and structure. What began as a fledgling mission grew—through prayer, discipline, doctrine, and governance—into a nationally recognised Pentecostal movement within the global COGOP family.
As a pioneer, he provided steady apostolic oversight, navigating the church through seasons that required wisdom more than noise, faith more than popularity, and endurance more than applause. His leadership helped lay sound spiritual, doctrinal, and administrative foundations—foundations that have allowed the church to mature, multiply, and remain stable over time.
Carrying a rare blend of apostolic, evangelistic, pastoral, and teaching grace, Bishop Ekpai Mayeke James has invested more than four decades of faithful labour into the Kingdom. Through his ministry, multiple congregations and schools have been established across various cities in Cameroon, strengthening both the spiritual and social witness of the church.
Today, he serves as the General Overseer of the Church of God of Prophecy in Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, offering seasoned leadership, counsel, and regional oversight—still standing watch over what God entrusted to him many years ago.
The legacy of Bishop Ekpai Mayeke James is not loud, but it is lasting. It is marked by endurance, institutional stability, and generational stewardship. His life stands among those of senior Pentecostal fathers whose obedience and long-term faithfulness helped shape the Pentecostal landscape of Cameroon.
